Mixing Mates delivers once again with their 3rd digital EP. The club night is no stranger to ravey dancefloor cuts and when they’re not shelling them at their own events they’re pushing new tracks through their label. Mixing Mate’s releases always hit the mark providing club-ready weapons for DJs to deploy in any situation whether that be a festival, late-night rave, or sweaty house party.
Slip and Slide is no different. The three-track EP is equal parts pumping, pulsating, and brooding. An EP built for those introvert head-down clubbing moments, when nothing else matters but the music.
The EP has been produced by London-based producer and DJ Emrson. A versatile producer whose previous releases range from washed-out trippy house numbers and squelchy, bassy club fodder. He’s certainly brought his breadth of sounds and production techniques to this EP, crafting a captivating triptych of tracks that’ll be doing damage well into the UK festival season.
The EP opens with “x101” a taught percussion-led track that winds up the ante with scatty drums and a punching kick before breaking the tension with some meaty squelchy stabs. The inclusion of some synth chords gives dancers a glimmer of light to hold onto as they get taken on a ride by some of the nicest drums we’ve heard in a while.
The EP’s title track “Slip and Slide” initially sounds like it’s going to continue this theme before taking a pleasant left turn with some airy synth, a driving kick, and warming, chest-swelling bass. A track that never stands still it encourages listeners to dance with its laid-back yet rhythmic charm.
Rounding off the EP is “Too Stoned” which, unlike its namesake, is the most energetic of the three tracks. A hectic shaker and rolling bass bring listeners into this track before lifting the mood to a fever pitch with some masterfully filtered synth and a no-nonsense kick. A track truly at home in a peak time set and one that’s guaranteed to get the club pumping.
