It’s been just over a year since Yant released his first EP, Cosmic Borders, and after working on several remix projects and playing all over Europe he’s been back in the studio producing more uncompromising techno.
Yant’s had a packed year. As Limbo radio regular he recently took part in their 48-hour live stream to celebrate the stations move to Downtex Mill. Looking further afield Yant had the pleasure of playing at Tresor in 2018 as well as throwing down sets at Fold and Village Underground. More recently he did a remix for Deano’s EP Double Take on Konsequent Records. He has also played alongside Slam at Projekts Skatepark in May with the Haus22 collective and at Phonox in London warming up for Len Faki.
After a whirlwind year, he’s back with his latest EP, Night Shift. Its a no-nonsense, late-night dance floor workout built for buzzing basements and dark clubs. A relentless 4 track powerhouse of an EP that demands everything from its dancers.
The EP also marks the launch of a new subseries named SK_X by the label SK_Eleven. SK_Eleven is a label run by Setaoc Mass. Originally from Manchester, Setaoc now lives in Berlin. Combining the two cities musical histories together in a label which champions techno artists.
Early support for the EP has come from techno heavyweights like RØDHÅD who dropped it during his ADE show at Photon. It has also seen early support from Ben Sims, DVS1, Marcel Dettmann and was included in B.Traits Dekmantel podcast.
Overall, the Night Shift EP does exactly what it says on the tin. It delivers a quartet of tracks that’ll be working overtime at club nights around the world. Taking the late evening early morning shift at places like White Hotel, Berghain and Bassiani to name a few.
The EP’s title track ‘Night Shift’ is underpinned by rumbling drums and minimal percussion. A serious, head down, fist-pumping techno track.
Rubble Trouble’s strained strings create a taut, restless atmosphere. The addition of the open Hi’s add to the scatty energy. An excellent track for those wanting to build a dance floor into a frenzy.
On the flip side is Scrub Act. Its arpeggiated synths and heavily reverbed percussion give this track a spaced out, almost melancholy feel. If you want some somber tones in your techno set reach for this track.
Closing off the EP is Headbutt. Its shrill stabs and rolling drums evoke a relentless mechanical churning, barreling over dance floors the world over.
Yant’s Night Shift EP is now available to purchase. You can get a copy at Bandcamp.
