Jerk It are back on the blog. They’ve put this special mix together for us ahead of their first release on their newly christened record label. Find out all about their first release JERKIT001 in our interview with founder Callum.

Hey Jerk It, It’s been over a year since we last spoke. What have you been up to in that time? Any great parties you can report on or events you’ve run?

Since our last mix, we joined forces with our pals Modern Logic to bring Sputnik One to Manchester, celebrated our 1st birthday with Valby Rotary owners Tom VR & Louf and recently launched our label ‘Jerk It’ at the beginning of the year.

Not to forget the intimate parties we’ve thrown with following Dj’s in and around Manchester (Shouts: Bobo, Tom2trax, Reiss Johnson, Jamie Bryan, Legwork, All My Friends and Nat Fanuel)

Where did the idea come from to launch the label?

The idea of the label was something that Cal & Rick always wanted to happen at some point down the line… After several club nights some which were successful and some not, we decided to invest our time and money in the label side of things and focus solely on that.

Our aim is not to keep the label subjected to one genre… If it’s good we’ll see what we can do with it.

Your first release is with longtime collaborator Bobo what can we expect from the EP

We’ve been friends with Bobo for a while now and noticed he chugs out tunes like no tomorrow, jumping from breaks to one release and the next would be a hybrid ghetto tech collab with his Pal and Label co-owner Lars. Seriously this guy has released 4 EP’s this year alone on his self-published label ‘Bars of Beats’ and we only thought it was right that Bobo would be the first artist to release on the label.

Expect breaks, dreamy synths, and heavy-hitting bass

What are your plans for the label going forward?

Well seeing as Manchester was a major musical hub back in the day and still thrives through to this day, we wanted ‘Jerk It’ to be part of this hub. That being we want to create a platform for manchester based producers to get their music out there into the world both Physically and Digitally as the amount of people here who produce is quite astonishing and productions are on point.

Going forward we’ve already got the next 2 releases in the pipeline, they won’t take as long to release as the first EP has taken, this due to us not knowing the ins and outs of running a record label.

Let’s talk a bit about the mix (I don’t think there was any homemade gin involved in this one!), who out of your crew threw this one down?

The mix this time was recorded by Benca & Cal and no homemade gin was involved but a few tinnies of Stella with a nice view of the City skyline.

Finally, is there anything else on the horizon for Jerk it? Any more upcoming releases/events that we should keep an eye out for?

We’re hosting the EP Launch Party @ Eastern Bloc on the 27th September and will be joined by Bobo as well as residents (Cal,Rick, Benca, Ausgang). We also celebrate our 2nd Birthday in November and are in the process of planning a special party to celebrate, yes there will be cake!

As we mentioned before we’re already in the process of locking down the next 2 releases on the label…… Watch this space!!!

JERK001 will be released 29th September
