Konsep was founded in 2013 by Brazilian trio Carlos Eduardo Bucci, Eduardo “Tuti” Schulz, and Jose Eduardo Hess. The label’s goal, which hasn’t changed since its inception, has been to find music that conveys the concepts of simplicity and originality.

The label aims to shine a light on tracks with a techno heritage and it has released singles with sonic aesthetics ranging from Minimal to Tech House. Nowhere is this sound more fully realised than in the labels latest release, EP 1, by Berlin-based producer Kotoike aka Isaac De Martin.

Ep 1 is an amalgamation of organic sounds, techno drum-machines and electronic beats Kotoike has collected on his trips around the world. The focal point of the EP is the traditional Japanese string instrument the Koto. The combination of Eastern & Western influences, traditional strings, and analog drums creates a sound that is both dance floor orientated & made for reflective contemplation.

Opening track Eins combines bouncing analog bass and kicks with a walking Koto lead. Its scatty energy if re-enforced by the slight chops and its rolling hi-hats. This track would be a perfect addition to any sunset set. The oriental influences add a festival feel to an otherwise moody arrangement.

Zwei teases an acid bassline with a restrained atmosphere, minimal highs, and other-worldly samples. There’s more chopping and distorting in this track and you can hear Kotoike building loops and transforming sounds to create a piece of music that can take your dance floor into a deep trance.

Drei is a masterclass in atmospheric dance music. Moving from soft pads to tribal drums this track wouldn’t be out of place opening a set on one of the world’s biggest stages.

Viers melancholy tone prompts quiet reflection before its syncopated hi-hats wake you up with the addition of a solid kick drum and hints of Koto. Both peaceful and energetic this is a track that can be used in almost any set.

Rounding out the bumper 5 track EP is a remix by label founder Bucci. His take on the opening track is more dance floor orientated than the original. A strong kick and some interesting cut and pastes create a great alternative if you need a track for those 4am sets.
